Raising Beans

Paparazzi photos of our life.

This years Crafts that I can't show until AFTER Christmas

Saturday, December 29, 2007

Post Christmas...enjoy, though I didn't get a picture of my mom's bags, which looked way better than Pam's, sorry!

So I'm uploading photos as I take them, but as you can tell won't post it until after Christmas morning =).

First up, a hat I made for little boy Bogh who should be coming along in March/April. Since we had Sarah and Joe as our Santa people for Christmas this year, it seemed sad NOT to make something for the new one.

...and of course something for the rest of the family. Though these didn't turn out quite as nice as I had hoped...crud

Now because my immediate family is small....I of course needed to make stuff for them. I also love the environment so Pam got....drum roll please....grocery bags!

Merry Christmas

So we haven't found our way to the Post Office yet, so anyone who gets one gets it late. Here is an internet version...especially since my email address book is back in Japan...count yourself in!

Oh, and check out Pam's blog for some pics of the kids playing together.
Merry Christmas everyone!

The HECK that is LAX

Thursday, December 20, 2007

Clark did very well on the flight, he only cried for a bit when he woke up and I couldn't rock him because of turbulence. Though he didn't fall back asleep again until the last 2.5 hours of the flight, at least he did ok. I was rather perturbed when the stewardesses came by shouting about breakfast and I had to pick him up. Oy, do you not remember the baby I was trying to get to sleep for half of the flight? He luckily got a 4 hour nap later in the day, and is asleep now, so we are doing OK. The real torture was Immigration.

Let me start by saying I have always been annoyed by Immigration in LA, why? dunno, but SFO is way more streamlined, and goes so much faster. Today was exceptionally bad. We didn't know that since we are a family Masaki can come with me through the citizen line, and so he went in the visitor line. Oy, and got taken to what is called secondary. Yeah, the thought it was suspicious that he had the car seat and no baby, so the took him to interview him. I had NO idea, had to ask around, finally I saw him get taken upstairs, and had to ask a bunch more people for help. Let me say this, Immigration Officers are friendly, but for some reason anyone lower than a supervisor doesn't know JACK about what is going on. He finally got released with enough time to *miss* our connecting flight to SLC. YEAH! Would any of the airline people help by calling ahead or coordinating? 'Uh, I can't do that'. Oy, no one communicates here! We get to Delta to check in, and the lady at the end of the line was like 'Oh well, you're gonna miss your flight'...what?!?!?! why not bring us to the front? We've just dealt with INS...oy. We couldn't be placed on any flights today, so we are rescheduled for the same time tomorrow. Free of charge, unfortunately we have to shell out for the hotel, but at least at a discount(supposedly). It was a blessing, we all got good naps, were able to get a gophone, and learn how to use a bus in LA.

Let me say this, people here have no concept of distance. We wanted to go to Target and were told TWICE that it was only like a 10 min walk(that or just a mile down the road). Well after walking for around 45 min we decided to hop on a bus. Yeah, it wasn't a 10 min walk, it wasn't just a mile down the road, it was 20 LA blocks, which is several miles, and a 15-20 min bus ride! We got to eat at a nice little joint that is like a cross between KFC and La Salsa, Clark enjoyed the refried beans, got some snacks for the trip tomorrow, and we are set to sleep today off. Wish us better luck tomorrow.

Ohh I am soooooo READY!

Tuesday, December 18, 2007

I'm packed, Masaki is packed(because I packed for him), Clark is packed, our goodie bag is packed, Clark's lunch/dinner/breakfast for tomorrow is packed. Other than the fact that I have to go to the post office and can't because of a sleeping baby, I am ready. We even made it to our church play group today. Now let me tell you, I am EXCITED! Let me add, I am also filled with the same dread of 1000 teenagers on SAT test day. Why? 9-hour plane ride + toddler =scary!

I'll let you know how we survive.

Oh, and I made eggnog....it tastes like liquid pudding.

...and I kinda invented a new snack for clark. Black olives filled with cream cheese and fine chopped broccoli. He eats his broccoli and loves it! YEAH!

last but not least, the pictures I didn't get uploaded last time.

a wonderful cell phone self portrait

and proof that my husband loves me! Yep, that is salami, a very precious commodity here in Japan. My provider sure does provide...and then some!

What we've done this December

I have neglected the blog, so here are some pics and one liners to tide you over for a bit...enjoy!

Our little bag lady, carrying his blocks.

Mommy and Clark in the park

Clark in his new Gap outfit from Kaori!

They look like lumberjacks to me!

Mom's little copilot...awwww

He likes to help me water the plants and hang the laundry, so these flip flops were a must. He LIVES to go outside in the morning!

Our recent trip to Costco

All Morning long...

Friday, December 14, 2007

We've been watching this home video of Tenna over and over and over and over and over all morning long. Clark loves it. I just thought I'd share this blast from the past.

I'll post some pictures of Clark soon. Masaki's cousin got him this super cute outfit from the GAP because she is sooooo excited that we entered him in the model contest and she is totally positive he'll win. I wish I was so optimistic. I know he is super cute, but I don't think the photos we entered did him justice. We HAD to wear a GAP outfit, so our choices were limited. First I need to shower and cut a whole bunch of stuff up.

I know I know, just bear with me a few more days and I'll start to post again, I promise. I still have like five 3 big sewing projects and one thing for my secret santa family and then I am done(but I also have to pack, keep up with the housework, and keep Clark from drawing all over the walls/furniture/books in that time as well). I may not blog again until Yutah hehehe Utah I mean. We're going to Masaki's parents on the 18th and then fly out on the 19th. EEK! I'm gonna get back to work so I can blog sooner! Yeah for blogging!

All apologies

Tuesday, December 4, 2007

So I am very sorry, I haven't updated in over a week, and I'm going to continue to neglect the blog until after Christmas. Why you may ask? Well I have over extended myself and over planed and have a ton of Christmas presents to make as well as a Christmas Card to photoshop. Sorry about the mini-sabbatical...but I'll give you something to think about that is totally non-Christmas related.

Private Parts. We are having the discussion on what to call them. I taught Masaki the word WeeWee a while back, so that he didn't keep saying 'hot dog' or something else he had learned from Beavis and Butthead, and he wants to use that. I say we use the proper term(which I'm not mentioning so anyone using a library computer can still read this blog, you know parents filters, etc.). I don't want Clark to be embarrassed about his body, Masaki doesn't want him shouting the word out when he's older(though I don't know why shouting out the word weewee is that much better). So that is our dilemma. Question to all you readers. What did/do/will you teach your kids, and why?

See y'all from time to time, but back full time after Christmas. Oh yeah and see y'all in Utah!
