How Engaging!

Monday, February 25, 2008

Recently I've had a few friends get engaged and it got me thinking about when Masaki popped the question. Thinking back on it I realized it was almost exactly three years ago that we became official, so let me share the story.

He was the first one to mention marriage while we were video chatting one night. I was smart enough not to say anything first, wait 'til the guy is ready! We were talking about going to Hong Kong to see Star Wars when it opened, since it didn't open in Japan until 2 months later. I guess it got him thinking about marriage. Go figure! Well we went to the Temple, prayed and fasted about it, and came up with 'not yet'. After we picked a different date and felt better about it, we went ring shopping. Blah, blah, blah. Turns out the ring was ready a week early so when I went up to his house for Stake Conference he already had it, remember a week early. After church we went on a walk in a park near the beach and as we were near a little waterfall he turned around and got down on a knee and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes, and it wasn't too crazy, which is good. I did giggle the rest of the walk looking at my pretty pretty, as Andi would say. I know people have some cool stories for engagement, so please oh please share. Oh yeah and when we got back to his parents house, we told them =).

This also got me thinking about the wording...I was watching Wives and Daughters(excellent by the way, so glad I bought that DVD) and I love that he asks 'Will you be my wife?' Marriage is the easy part, being a wife is the more interesting, long term part. Le sigh. Watch the movie!

Oh, and blast from the past pictures of us while 'engaging'.

How fun! Love the pictures and the story. And amen to the wife being the more difficult part.

Love the pictures! It's fun to think back on that point in the relationship--a little different than the 5 years later aspect :)
Oh, and something fun from our engagement--because he wanted the proposal to be a surprise, but also wanted me to have a say in what my ring looked like, he proposed with a fake ring--I thought that was genius.
